Homebound Patient Defined
- Patient experiences a considerable and taxing effort to leave home
- A patient requires the assistance of devices such as crutches, canes, wheelchairs and walkers, assistance of 1-2 persons or use of special transportation when leaving home
- Patient’s absences from the home is usually for reasons of receiving medical treatment. These absences from home are infrequent, of relatively short duration and do not necessarily indicate the patient’s capacity to obtain medical treatment outside
- Absences to attend religious services infrequently and in short duration are allowed
- Leaving home is medically contraindicated
